A fashion portrait story with Zozo at Istanbul.

IN BETWEEN ...

“Are we ready?” she asked. It was mid-April in Istanbul. All the deciduous trees were stretching their leafless branches up to an indecisive sky; waiting for a prompting sign to start with their annual show. They were ready. Only waiting for the sun to shine, just like us. But when it comes down to us, of “being ready”; I must say that we were a few notches away from it. “in between” would be the right term to address our recent status and in fact that’s where this city kept us most of our life. As we walked down the road to the Karaköy waterfront, a chilly breeze filled our lungs with mossy Bosphorus air. Through narrow streets curling between worn up buildings from various ages, we could catch snippets of the enchanting seaview and the foggy silhouette of the Asian side of town. We were there; right in between Europe and Asia. Hanging in the limbo of pandemic lockdown with distant squeakings of seagulls echoing above us, as we wandered calmly on the abandoned road. We took the next right into a crooked street and then another left… Just like traveling in time the whole texture around us changed unexpectedly. Her face enlightened with some gentle shine from the sun. We knew that this would last only for a few short moments. So we’d better start shooting in between.
